Tour Overview

Day 1

Day 1: Flight to Luang Prabang

Day 2

Day 2: Exploring the old royal city

Arrival in Luang Prabang and transfer to the hotel (check-in at the hotel from 14:00). The first day is free for you to arrive relaxed or for your first own explorations in the old royal city. Overnight in Luang Prabang including breakfast the next morning.
Day 3

Day 3: City tour of Luang Prabang and excursion to Kuang Si Waterfalls (B)

City tour with a visit to Wat Visoun, the oldest actively used temple in Luang Prabang, which also houses a collection of gilded wooden Buddha statues from the 15th and 16th centuries. We continue to Wat Xien Thong, probably the most beautiful monastery in Luang Prabang, and the National Museum (Royal Palace). The former Royal Palace became a National Museum in 1975, where you can find some rooms that have been preserved the way the royal family last used them (closed on Tuesdays). After that, you can still see Wat Mai. From Luang Prabang, you will later go to the Kuang Si waterfalls, whose sinter terraces form a perfect natural backdrop. Enjoy swimming in the clear water or just resting. Then head to the “Khmu” village of Ban Tha Pene before returning to Luang Prabang. In the evening, the Talat Night Market (Hmond Market) is still on your agenda. Overnight in Luang Prabang including breakfast the next morning. Meals included: Breakfast Bookable options Dinner on Nava Mekong The cruise ship departs daily at 5:30 PM. After dinner, you can enjoy traditional dances by local performers. A mixture of royal ballet and folk tales about rural life is waiting for you. You will return around 20:00.
Day 4

Day 4: Boat trip to the unique Pak Ou Caves (B)

Visit the local market in the morning, which is very busy in the early hours of the morning. Then a boat trip down the Mekong River to the steep limestone cliffs that rise above the Mekong River and the Nam Ou River. Their goal is the Pak Ou caves, which are uniquely populated with Buddha images of all kinds. As you continue, you will stop at Ban Xang Hai village, which is known for its Lao Lao (rice whisky). You will then visit Ban Muang Keo with its silk weaving and rice schnapps distillery, as well as the weaving village of Ban Xang Khong. Here you can follow the production of traditionally hand-woven cotton and silk, as well as the production of mulberry paper. Back in Luang Prabang, climb the 100m high temple mount Phou Si in the middle of the city and visit the small temple complex on top of it. From up here, you have a wonderful view of the city and the river. Overnight in Luang Prabang including breakfast the next morning. Meals included: breakfast
Day 5

Day 5: Scenic drive from Luang Prabang to the mysterious Plain of Clay Jars (B)

In the morning, take a leisurely trip on a mountain road with a wonderful view of forested mountains, green valleys and rock formations. The trip offers many opportunities for photo stops and visits to mountain peoples settlements. Upon arrival, a visit to the “level of clay jugs”, a collection of mysterious huge stone vessels. The jugs, whose origin and use are unknown, are sometimes over 3 m high and weigh up to 6 tons. The “Plains of Clay Jugs” is one of the most fascinating sights in the country. Overnight in Xieng Khouang including breakfast the next morning. Meals included: Breakfast Bookable options Monk's food There is a very special morning visit for early risers (5:30am). Watch as countless monks dressed in orange leave their pagodas to get food from Luang Prabang residents. We also provide donations for this beautiful gesture to the monks. Return to the hotel for breakfast.
Day 6

Day 6: Visit of a traditional silk farm and flight to Vientiane (B)

In the morning, visit the Lao Sericulture silk farm, a “non-profit” institution. She is committed to preserving traditional mulberry silk processing — mulberry silk is the highest quality of the various types of silk. Then transfer to the airport and fly to Vientiane. Overnight in Vientiane including breakfast the next morning. Meals included: breakfast
Day 7

Day 7: Half day city tour of Laos' capital (B)

Vientiane is the capital of Laos, but is a bit “sleepy” at the same time very charming and inviting with its overgrown avenues, interesting temples and colorful markets. You'll visit That Luang, a golden stupa and one of the country's most important national monuments, and Wat Phra Keo, the former royal palace, today a museum with the finest examples of Buddhist sculpture. The massive Wat Sisaket Patuxai is reminiscent of the Arc de triumphs in Paris. Following this, a visit to a hospital, which is still dedicated to treating people who were victims of mines and cluster bombs originating from the Vietnam War. The so-called “cluster bombs”, which encourage children to play due to their shape, are particularly dangerous. The afternoon is free. Overnight in Vientiane including breakfast the next morning. Meals included: breakfast
Day 8

Day 8: Flight from Vientiane to Pakse (B)

In the early morning, you fly from Vientiane to the south of Laos, to Pakse. After arriving and being greeted by the local guide, you will continue to the fertile Bolaven-Plateau, where coffee and tea are grown. You can discover lesser-known Laos here. The region has a pleasantly cooler climate and is known for its many waterfalls. The impressive and highest in Champasak province is the Tad Fane waterfall, which you will visit. Overnight in Pakse including breakfast the next morning. Meals included: breakfast
Day 9

Day 9: UNESCO World Heritage Mountain Temple Wat Phou Champasak (B)

Departure to Khong Island in the morning. Near Champasak town, cross the Mekong River by ferry to visit Wat Phou Champasak mountain temple in its beautiful location. The extensive temple complex, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001, is one of the best-preserved examples of Khmer architecture and is still 200 years older than Angkor Wat itself. After lunch, it's on to Ban Kiet Ngong — a small Laotian village. There you will take an elephant ride (2 people per elephant) and learn more about the keeping and lifestyle of pachyderms. In the afternoon, drive to Khong Island, the largest island on the southern Mekong, one of the most picturesque places in all of Laos. Overnight on Khong Island including breakfast the next morning. Meals included: breakfast
Day 10

Day 10: Marvel at the largest waterfalls in Asia (B)

Morning trip on a longtail boat. Take a look at the impressive Don Khone area, the remains of the French era, the Liphi waterfall, including the rapid rapids called the “Devil's Corridor.” After returning to the mainland, visit Ban Nakasang and Khone Phapheng, the largest waterfalls in Southeast Asia, also known as the “Niagara of the East.” This breathtaking region near the border with Cambodia is also known for its abundance of wildlife. We then return to the mainland and visit Ban Nakasang a fishing village. Then drive back to Pakse. Overnight in Pakse including breakfast the next morning. Meals included: breakfast
